"THE MIND OF CHRIST"

1 Corinthians 2: 15-16

15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

OPENING QUESTION:

If you could be anyone in this world who would it be and why?

If I wanted to play basketball like Kobe Bryant, or sing and dance like Usher, you might tell me to “dream on.” However, if somehow Kobe or Usher could live inside of me and exert their mind and power through me, you might be shocked to see what I could do on the basketball court, or in a concert to be more correct: what Kobe or Usher could do in ME.

Living the Christian life is hard. Living the Christian life is IMPOSSIBLE. You and I will never teach this “flesh” to be “like Jesus.” Attempting to teach our natural selves creates a “roller coaster” experience of ups and downs in the average Christian’s life. If you are going to live a Christian life, you must live from the life of Christ IN YOU. Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Amazingly, the truth is we can live the Christian life successfully because He has put the “Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus” in us! As Christians, we have His Spirit within us thus, we have “THE MIND OF CHRIST.” Paul tells us clearly in (Romans 8:6-9) “6The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ." Furthermore, Paul reiterates in (1Corinthians 2:16) “‘Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.”

So how can a mere man know the mind of the Lord? How can any natural man communicate that knowledge which he has never acquired, and which is foolishness to him? “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit” (1Corinthians 2:14). That knowledge is spiritual, and the natural man is of the flesh…“but we have the mind of Christ.” He has endowed His children with the same disposition, being born again by His Spirit. Therefore, we are capable of knowing His mind and receiving the teachings of His Spirit. (Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.”)These teachings we do receive, and therefore are well qualified to convey them to others. The words, “that he may instruct Him,” should be translated: “that he may teach IT.” That is, teach the mind of God; not instruct God, but teach His mind to others.

1 Corinthians 2:9-16

9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” the things God has prepared for those who love him— 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”

Let us look into Paul’s life. Without a doubt, he was a great apostle but he came not from people with excellence of speech and of wisdom. Paul explicitly narrated, “And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God” (1Corinthians 2:1), when he declared unto them the counsel of God. The enticing words of man's wisdom are seldom accompanied by the demonstration and power of the Holy Spirit. When we try to be clever in our teaching, we rob the Gospel of its power. Paul’s determination was “to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the Cross of Christ should be made of none effect”(1Corinthians 1:17). That which the Holy Spirit alone can discover, He alone can explain. Let no man dare to speak of God in any other way than as God speaks of Himself in His Word. When we have “the mind of Christ,” we have His views, His feelings, His temperament, and His Spirit influences us.

Jesus tells us, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15). And Jesus said, “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you” (John 16:13-15).

MIDDLE QUESTION:

What role did the mind play in the first sin, which was the downfall of mankind? (Genesis 3)

When we read His Word, we gain a fuller knowledge by the revelation of the Spirit into the mysteries of God in Christ Jesus. The Apostle Paul said,“that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly” (Ephesians 3:3).  We do not study the Word to gain intellectual knowledge, but that the Spirit will give us true illumination and revelation of who Christ is and who we are in Him so that “in reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,” (Ephesians 3:4).

Whose mind do you use…yours or God's? There is quite a difference in the two. Our mind is limited, but God's mind is unlimited (Psalm 147:5 “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.) God wants us to use His wisdom and His knowledge because it is so vast. We need to rely on the mind of Christ, which Paul says we have. We cannot depend on our natural senses to understand what God wants us to do. We should not rely on what we see, hear, or think. We need to walk by faith, not by sight. We need to be led by the Spirit at all times. (1Corinthians 2:10 “these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.”)

God will show us great and mighty things that we do not know (Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”) The Holy Spirit knows the very thoughts of God. The Spirit is like a phone line from Heaven that connects us to God. All we have to do is to listen. Jesus made this powerful line of communication with heaven possible when He sent us the Holy Spirit!

We have “the mind of Christ” because we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. The Holy Spirit teaches us all things, even the deep things of God. God will reveal Himself to us in mighty ways. Let us be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's voice. We will be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit and we will have access to the unlimited, all-knowing, eternal mind of Christ!

FINAL WORD

Obviously if we try to serve God through ourselves fighting our flesh and our self and the world and Satan with his demons we are destined to fail. This is why many Christians today are miserable and lack passion and fire in their Christian walk because they are getting beat up by trying to live for our Father through their earthly defined love for Him. This is not intended this way. However, due to poor Christian leadership with false preaching and teachings plus a lack of desire to be led and filled by the Holy Spirit, the Christian church today is a mockery to God.

I am reminded of the movie "THE MATRIX" which was about how the human race was being deceived to believe that they were living their life when in all actuality they were in cocoons being used by machines as batteries. The similarity to the spiritual warfare of today is amazing because as saints we know the world is being deceived into thinking that this is all there is to life. That all of this happened by chance so live and let live and do whatever you want to please yourself. BUT ALL OF THESE ARE TOTALLY WRONG! We as in the movie have been enlightened and awakened to see the truth and to know what is a lie and we know that we are made for God’s glory not for our own pleasure. Moreover, we must surrender our ALL to be molded by Him to be soldiers, ambassadors, and ministers!

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your thoughts” (Proverbs 16:3). God never intended for us to try to do this on our own, what kind of Father He would be. He gave us everything we need to be truly all that He wants us to be through Jesus Christ! 2Corinthians 10:3-5 “3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

My brothers and sisters in Christ let us put this in practice to always surrender to Jesus and to the Holy Spirit everyday and be renewed daily pleading the blood to purify our hearts and to bind our minds to the mind of Jesus. Command Satan and his demons to speak no more to you and loose them away from you. Command sicknesses and illnesses to dry up and BE NO MORE! Cover yourself, loved ones and everywhere you go with the Blood of Jesus. Do this in the name above all names for we have the mind of CHRIST! Thank you JESUS!
